“Suspicious login attempt” on Instagram

Recently many owners of Android and iOS devices began to complain that when trying to enter their own Instagram accounts the smartphone reports the message “Suspicious login attempt: we detected an unusual login attempt. We’ll send you a security code to verify your identity“. Today we decided to understand the probable causes of this issue and offer you several ways to fix it.

Suspicious login attempt

The issue manifests itself as follows:

  1. A user logins his account;
  2. “Suspicious login attempt” message appears in the screen. Then a user is offered to select a way to receive a security code to login;
  3. After selecting “phone” option the code is received. The problem is that. After login a new password a user gets the same message “Suspicious login attempt” and the circle is closed.

Instagram forum is full of complains about this issue. They look like:

Hi, my account is about 5 years old. Now I face the issue, that is, I can’t access my account through a browser, or through other phones, or through other apps. The screen constantly displays “We detected an unusual login attempt”. I go to the email, get a secure code, enter it, and again and again I find myself on Instagram home page. What is the problem? Both the email and the phone for this account are working.

After studying advices in the web we made attempts to fix the issue by clearing cache, reinstalling the app, using older app versions, and having authorization in web-version. There was no result. Well, we made hard attempts to find a solution. We spread out our search over forums and, finally, we came to conclusions. The problem refers to a geolocation momentarily change (ip, country, region changes).

Amongst pages on one forum we found the answer:

Do not let your account have geolocation leap. They have a clever neuro bot. Moreover it is self-learning. It fixes the geolocation when registering for the first time. Then security codes are formed accordingly.

And everything begins clear. The app doesn’t allow to authorize using your home Wi-Fi, or via web-version because of the same IP-address. At last, using cell Internet it is no trouble to make authorization and then to switch it to home Wi-Fi. From this point of view it is not difficult to explain the problem. Cell network providers often assign another region to IP-address. You have probably faced it already. It likely happened the last time.

It remains to find out why Instagram has so serious security system that it rejects and doesn’t allow to authorize one even if he has working email and a phone number. It is not clear. Nevertheless, we have successfully authorized. We have fixed the issue. If you know other ways of how to solve this problem please let us know in Comments below.

  4. I received a suspicious log in attempt and they sent the verification code to an email that was miss spelled so I cant see what the code is and really need to get back into the account. Email was the only thing i had linked to the account.

Ok so I am having the suspicion login attempt but I know my email and password but I can’t log back in because when I changed the email I messed up on one letter and it’s sending it to an email that doesn’t exist !! I also can’t get it back from my phone because I never added it to a phone number !! So what should I do !?!?!

  13. I reported this to Instagram twice. They replied once but it was irrelevant and they did not even replied to the second one. I use the codes again and again but it says it is incorrect. It is really frustrating and I am about to start a riot lol

    I had the same problem. I changed my password and when I tried to login again, this problem occurred and I was using my cellular data but I really did not think it was because of so I could not figure it out why something like this happened. I tried to fill the security code space with wi-fi but it was erroring all the time. After some researches, I re-installed the app and tried to login with cellular data. It sent the same error again but this time the code has worked. Maybe you should login with the same conditions as you normally login. Because this problem is about IP adress and the cellular data deliverers use different IPs. Hope this helps you.

  15. Wth instagram? Fix this!!! I only has 2 options. The first option to get the code is to get it log in with your email and the second one is by phone number. That’s the problem!! I can’t open my email account and i’m not using that number anymore. Can’t instagram find a way to have more options to gain account again? Like let us state our password instead??????

  16. Instagram has signed me out and when I try to log back in, it takes me through the “unusual login attempt” verification bs. I put through the correct codes every time and it just tells me “incorrect code. Please check your code and try again” and another message “something went wrong, try again later”.

    Has anyone fixed this problem yet??

    But then i tried to log in and the system told me the found and “ Unusual login attempt”. Afterwards the send me a 6 digit verification code to submit, they gave by mail. But when i submit the code the tell me the numbers are wrong. I keep getting the same notification over and over again. Nobody knows what to do.
    I deleted the app and when i put it back i get the same problem.

  19. This worked for me! Kept getting “suspicious login attempt” and it would send me to my email for a code, I’d get the code, type it in, it would say “thank you, log in again” and I would try, and it would repeat over and over. Tried changing the password on the account from my old phone, still wouldn’t let me. Turned off my WiFi, typed in my username and the new password I had created and it let me right in. Thank you!

  22. I've been having the same problem since yesterday. This is frustrating and theres no form to submit in regards to this. This seems like an instagram programming issue and they need to fix this asap. I don't want to lose my account which i had for about 5 years.

  24. can we ever log in again? I do not think any of our accounts has been deleted, disabled, or hacked if its still up. I think instagram needs to fix something on their end as the code they are sending to our email is not working.

  25. fuck i shouldn't had logged out of my account -_- this is really frustrating. I tried to contact instagram but dead end. I'm hoping its a glitch and it allow as all to login within 2 days.

    • My issue has been going on for exactly 3 full days now. It has to be some sort of internal security issue that Instagram has going on at the moment. And the shit part is, makes you wish you didn’t logout to begin with! Very messy from Instagram’s end.

      • Right!!! I totally regret signing out, annoyed. Im tempted to make another ig account but its such a hassle. I just want my original account back 🙁 According to this thread and other threads i came across, this been going on for months. Im surprised instagram hasn't resolved it.

  27. i created a new account, logged in went under settings and reported the issue. Lets see if i get a response back. I think we all turned on the two step verification so whenever you log out of your account it will always asks for you to input a code to login and Ig is sending incorrect codes.

  29. Wtf we put the two ste verification on to not get hacked and instagram is the ones that are screwing us over then the actual hackers and cant even contact them. Absolute madness lmao

    • The thing that’s shitting me is, I haven’t turned on that 2 step bullshit or whatever it’s called. I’m certain. Because my business account went through the same issue but I was able to get in because it was linked to a mobile phone, the code was sent as a text and worked fine, I got back in. But my personal account is linked to my email, where they send an invalid/incorrect code. I really don’t think it’s that 2 step thingy. I’m sure. Mines not on!

      • I agree Ralph, i never put my phonenumber in the only my email. I don’t care if there is a error but why can’t we just get in contact with instagram so they van help us?!??!?
        Why people..?? How can we fix this????

        • I’m hoping the next available app update will shake things up a little. Maybe it’s glitch that needs to be attended to by Instagram, I don’t know, a bug fix or something.

It’s been saying suspicious login attempt out of nowhere it’s been 3 weeks and I just decided to make a new account I’ve lost so many followers and gaining is gonna be hard why can’t there be another option to prove the account is your like your password or something else this is really getting ridiculous people are saying there are problems and instagram is not bothering to fix them also there’s another glitch where I’ve been blocked from following or unfollowing people for the past week I don’t know what crack this app is on but it needs to fix up

  35. I have changed my old e-mail because it was lost and annoyed when it was replaced. Instagram asked me to enter a two-step verification via old e-mail that I cannot access. I do not know what kind of command this is because I have already verified a new e-mail, now I lose access because every time I try to log in I always ask for verification to the old e-mail. maybe someone has experienced the same case and now it has been successfully entered, please ask for a suggestion

  37. It's only giving me one option to verify that's me, my phone number. Unfortunately, I can't do that because I have a new number and forgot to update it on Instagram. Is there a way I can get them to send me the code via my g-mail?

  38. found solution to this (worked for me)
    1.connect any vpn and change your ip address
    2.login with your email id instead of user id
    3.on the error page generate verification code
    4.enter verification code bingo!!!!you are now in

  42. I found a method to bypass the "suspicous loggin detected", I used the edit the cookie extension. (you dont need a code from the gmail or phone number). just need to dit cookies and get access.
